This is the second time that happend to me. If I totaly discharge iPod's battery it will not start after I charge it.

First time it happend I tried to charge iPod overnight. I'm not sure, but I think it only works with real charger not through USB or FireWire connection to PC. Apple doesn't mention this on support page. But it worked.

Today I tried another thing. I charged iPod in the car for half an hour then I reset it. It works also.

If item or equipment has ability to show 'Error' message on some kind of the screen it will show it! Yet worst - if gadget has reset button (what my Pocket PC Phone has!)

# re: First iPod trouble 10/7/2004 8:36 AM David
Luckily, when my iPod does that, it doesn't show error in any way, nor dos it have reset button. You have to press "play/pause" and "menu" buttons for 10 seconds!

I went to my friends house to try and connect my iPod because my computer doesn't have Windows 2000 or XP. So when he plugged it into his computer, the screen on the Ipod said "Do Not Disconnect". When songs weren't transferring he tried to eject the iPod and he disconnected it, but the screen still has that "Do Not Disconnect" screen on it. I can't even turn it off. It's just stuck on that same screen. And my iPod is still brand new. This was the only time that I have tried to use it. How can I turn that off and restore my iPod back to normal?

# re: First iPod trouble 1/23/2005 11:18 PM David
Did you try to reset the iPod?

Try this procedure:

To reset iPod, iPod (Scroll Wheel), and iPod (Touch Wheel)
1. Connect iPod to the Apple iPod Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your Mac's built-in FireWire port. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
3. Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

To reset iPod mini and iPod (Click Wheel)
1. Connect iPod to the iPod Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

I have been having the problem of when I turn off my ipod mini by holding play/pause, it goes to the charged screen and stays there. Also, the ipod mini isn't being recognized when I plug it into my computer nor is the ipod mini itself recognizing when it is plugged into the recharging adapter.

Anyone hear of this problem/know how to fix it?

# re: First iPod trouble 2/28/2005 10:55 PM David
Sorry, Kyle. I don't know what could couse your problems. Did you check support section on Apple site?

If you have access, a visit to the Apple store or dealer would also be a good idea.

# re: First iPod trouble 5/2/2005 5:21 PM Emily
i have a different problem with my ipod mini. my ipod mini says it has a certain amount of power, but it realy doesn't b/c i will charge it fully and it takes 20 min and not 8 hours like it used 2. sometimes i leave it off after its "fully charged" and the power will still run out. and after playing 1 song the power will move 2 about half left. i tried downlaoding the newest software and resetting my ipod mini, it didn't help.

# re: First iPod trouble 5/5/2005 10:06 PM David
I would say your iPod is ready for a battery translplant.

I love my Ipod -- but when I hooked it up to my computer this morning it froze on the do not disconnect screen (you could tell it wasn't even charging). I then ejected it (and got the warning from my computer not to unplug the device) and now it is stuck on the "Do Not Disconnect Screen" and won't reset. Help!!

# re: First iPod trouble 5/24/2005 8:22 AM David
Joanne, did you try to hold the reset combination for long enough? I suggest you contact Apple Support. Sorry...

Yes.

My ipod mini equipment was recently stolen from my home so I purchased an Ipod usb power adapter and it won't charge from it, it only seems to charge from my computer

i just got an ipod mini. but when i plug it in itunes doesn't come up! i'm going to try the install disk again, but other then that i'm out of ideas... anyone?

# re: First iPod trouble 7/26/2005 7:32 PM sunny
I have a problem that comes up at random times: i am unable to turn off my ipod photo 30 gb. i would press and hold the play button, but that would either play or pause the song that is currently playing. It doesn't happen all the time, so I find it hard to send it for servicing.

# re: First iPod trouble 8/9/2005 3:32 PM Heather
I also have a 30gb ipod photo and having exactly the same trouble! It's very annoying!!! Does anyone out there know how to turn it off?? Holding down the play button does just not work!!!!

# re: First iPod trouble 8/13/2005 1:33 PM ana
right!! ok i was deleting some things off my computer because i had very little room! and then very stupidly i deleted my itunes file from my music, by doing this i deleted all the songs from itunes! i had soo many songs on itunes that took me months to gather and i would really like to get them back, they are still on my ipod.
itunes is now not recognising my ipod, so i dont know if i can transfer songs from my ipod onto itunes but it would be nice if anyone would be able to help me with this because i really dont want to have to load all the songs onto my computer again! thanks

# re: First iPod trouble 8/15/2005 3:50 PM David
J.Figga: I have no idea. Mine chares from AC or USB.

Catty: Try reainstalling iTunes. I had situations like that and it helped!

sunny, Header: I never had an experience like that, sorry. Hope you solved the problem.

ana: There are some tools that you can use to get your songs off the iPod and back in the iTunes. You can try:
- CopyPod at http://www.copypod.net/
- ml_iPod (WinAmp plugin) at http://www.mlipod.com/index.php

I hope it helps!

Since I've had my iPod mini, for 3months, the battery has never lasted for more than 3hours. Even though I have left it charging over night or even for a couple of days the battery life seems to be very short. What can I do?

i spilled juice on my ex's 20gb ipod by mistake. it still turns on but i cannot select anything becuase the tocuh wheel appears to be broken.. is it broken or do i need to reset it or whatever?

# re: First iPod trouble 9/1/2005 7:32 PM David
I would say it's broken. You need to get it serviced.

# re: First iPod trouble 9/2/2005 1:01 PM graeme
where can i get that done?

# re: First iPod trouble 9/3/2005 5:46 AM screff
My ipod has worked great up until afew weeks ago...when it stopped charging. It hooks up to the comp fine and updates fine...but it just doesnt charge, even though it says its charging. The most i can get (which is VERY rare to get anything at all) is at the MOST 45 min, and a sliver on the battery bar...ive tried everything ive heard of...which is mostly reset reset reset, which doesnt work. If im able to get the big battery charging pic to come up, it freezes...i reset...goes back to frozen battery pic. I hope i dont have to send it in, ive only had it for 5 months...this is really a disapointment, i LOVE my ipod, but its turning out to be worthless since i cant use it...

# re: First iPod trouble 9/3/2005 10:28 AM David
greame: Apple Store
screff: I had the same problem. I changed the battery and it works now.

this is the second time this has happened...the first time i was able to fix it but i don't remember how. maybe you can help: I dropped my iPod mini on the floor (not a promising start, right?), and when I picked it up, the Menu part of the scroll wheel, the fast forward part, and the play/pause part were all stuck below the level of the mini and wouldn't work. I was still able to scroll up and down, however. The last time this happened, only the fast forward part and play/pause part got stuck. I'm at a loss...

# re: First iPod trouble 9/26/2005 8:33 AM David
This is certainly not a promising start. I think you hav to rip it appart. It's not that hard. You can follow the instructions I posted when I opened mine.

iPod has 1 year warranty. Read more here:

Johnny, I would suggest that you reset your iPod, that try reformating it with iPod Updater Tool.

# re: First iPod trouble 10/21/2005 3:01 AM Megan
My mini and I have been a fantastic duo for as long as I've had it. The other night it's battery was getting low so I plugged it into my iBook to charge it while I went to bed. In a sleepy stupor, I closed the iBook screen shortly after (then putting it into sleep mode which - yeah I know doesn't charge my iPod) but my iPod was still working when this happened. The next morning I grab it to take it to class and it won't turn on. Not only will it not turn on, my computer doesn't recognize that it's plugged in and nothing happens when I plug it into my AC adapter either. It won't reset no matter how many times I try, and I can't restore it because it doesn't show up on my computer! I've tried everything I can think of... any ideas? thanks for any help or any suggestions you've got!!!

# re: First iPod trouble 10/21/2005 8:41 AM David
I would suggest you find someone with a wall charger and try to charge your ipod that way. Maybe the battery is just too low for computer to "see" the iPod.

# re: First iPod trouble 11/22/2005 1:24 AM SaRaH
I have the 20gb Ipod and it was working well, then one day the screen just went blank and would not turn on whatsoever. I tried restarting it pushing the Menu & Play/Pause buttons and what not but nothing worked. However! I found that it only works when I have it hooked up to the wall charger (not to the computer, haven't tried that yet) but yes, as soon as I disconnect it from the wall charger it won't work. Anyone know what's going on?

# re: First iPod trouble 11/22/2005 9:31 PM David
It looks to me like you have a dead battery.

# re: First iPod trouble 12/11/2005 7:05 PM LOONITICK
what ya'll should do is try this steps

To reset iPod mini and iPod (Click Wheel)
1. Connect iPod to the iPod Power Adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
2. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
3. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

if the apple symbol just get stuck there, repeat holdind the menu and the select button at the same time..repeat this step till the light flashes on...it should work from there..

GOOD LUCK..

# re: First iPod trouble 12/21/2005 11:15 PM GEORGINA
RIGHT! so my ipod started freezing all of a sudden and so i took peoples advise and began rebooting it everytime it did so. This worked fine until the other day i rebooted it and the dreaded exclamation mark of death came up on the screen and it just wouldnt turn on at all. At first i thought i would have to send it back, but yesterday i got so frustrated with it that i hit it slightly (not too hard!) and i heard a whirring sound for a while- then it started working again. I downloaded the latest software onto it and it has been working fine ever since!

Alright, i got my iPod today, 30Gb video, and i plugged it into the computer to charge it, and for over 2 hours, it has been stuck on the same screen, (the menu screen) and the backlight has been on the whole time....it just totally froze. i've tried resetting and restarting it, but it won't move, or swivel, or go to a new menu, or change at all. I've had it on and off hold, plugged in and not plugged in...everything. what do i do to make it work?

# re: First iPod trouble 12/27/2005 5:11 AM Paul
I also just bought a 30GB mini for my daughter....frozen and no way of resetting it. Won't recharge through adaptor or computer and backlight staying on. Have tried everything including toggling hold switch and pressing menu/play and back/forward buttons...nothing works. At this stage looks like a big waste of time and money, especially if this type of thing is happening regularly. Anyone have any idea of what to do...besides returning the product?

# re: First iPod trouble 2/2/2006 3:24 PM Adam

My iPod was purchased yesterday and ha been charging for 10 hrs! Its only meant to take 4, but just had "do not disconnect" on the sceen. Whan i did disconnect it works perfectly well, but is only 1/2 full of charge. I have it plugged into the USB port of my windows XP computer. Is it ok to disconnect and just use? Someone told me it will cause the battery to wear out faster if i dont charge it fully the first time. But my computer has been on all night!

# re: First iPod trouble 3/20/2006 12:20 AM Shay
My iPod deleted all my songs, so I plugged it into my computer to put them back on, but my songs won't transfer from iTunes, so I tried to restart my iPod by holding down the Menu and center button until the apple shows up on the screen, but once the apple appears it won't go away and my iPod freezes with the apple on the screen.

# re: First iPod trouble 3/30/2006 10:58 PM Toya
I was having the same problem with the ipod mini not working. I reset it and all it would do was show the ac adapter and wall plug, when I connected it to the wall plug nothing changed (I even tried the USB cable). Luckily, I live near an apple store. I took it in and they ran a diagnostic. I was told it had a flash bios problem. They fixed it in 15 minutes (free) and i was on my way.

When I removed my iPod Nano from my PC, the "Do Not Disconnect Screen" won't go off and appears to be frozen. (The time is also frozen) Also, before I plugged it in to my PC, Hold was on, now even though I turned the Hold button off, the Hold Lock Picture is still staying there. I've tried all the things that have been mentioned but it still won't work at all.

# re: First iPod trouble 5/25/2006 3:52 PM Will
I love my Ipod Nano, but it recently went dead because every time i turned it off the battery kept on running. I charged it and it charges fine but once its done charging the battery immedeiately starts draining. My ipod was useless. So I decided to look up some Ipod battery companys on Google. Almost everyone I looked at had prices over the roof. I finally after a couple of hours on Google found a place called.
ipods99
They had All sorts of batteries for all versions of ipods. I then found the battery for my beloved Nano and bought it minutes after finding the website. It only took them 2 days too get it to me. And when i opened the package my battery was there along with tools and instructions on how to replace it. I replaced it and it worked GREAT.
THANk'S SO MUCH!!!
if you would like the URL to the site it is.

i got a new 60 gb ipod video n it worked fine for some time n it updates and charged well. after travelling and not using my ipod for about 2-3 days i tried to put it on and it was in italian which i put on before just for fun to see if i could understand it. today when i plugged my ipod into my Mac OS X, itunes opened n it asked if i wanted to update my ipod so i said ok . then it tried twice and a message appeared for 1/2 a second and all i could read was 'error'. right after that, when my ipod was still conected, it showed a picture of a plug and my USB power adapter (which i use when i travel) and then switched off. i tried to reset it it doesnt work. it doesnt turn on whatsoever( if i try to charge it via comp or USB power adapter plugging into the wall). can someone pleaaaseee help me? im travelling to california tomorrow and have to know if i should go to the Apple Store n check it out. please help!

Someone please help! When I connect my Ipod the "Do not disconnect" screen will not go away. I've left it sit for 2 hours at one time and it still won't go away. I also try to update the Ipod after I put some more songs into the library and it won't transfer them (probably due to the fact that that screen won't go away). If anyone has an answer I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you kindly!

I disconnected my ipod before ejecting it after loading new songs, now the apple sign just flashes continuously! I've tried the whole resetting procedure i.e.holding down select and menu keys but that does nothing, it continues flashing the apple sign when i release the buttons. Please help!!

I need help, somebody please. I bought an iPod nano with my birthday cash, and its the 2G next generation style. The problem is. I am using windows media player to put the music on the iPod. When I plug it in, it goes to the 'Do Not Discconnect' screen. Next, I pick the songs I want to put on it, and add them to the sync list. I then proceed to press the 'Sync' button. When the songs are finished syncing, the iPod shows no signs that the music is on it. when I unplug the nano, and go to songs, there is nothing there. Also, when I 'check device' in windows media player, it shows that all the songs that i have choosen are on my iPod, but they are not. I really need help before the end of the week, because wrestling season begins soon, and I need my Christian Death Metel to get pumped for the matches. PLease e-mail me at the following adress:

killa_hotdog92@yahoo.com

Thanks Much,
Alan W. Durham

i have a problem that i havent been able to find anywhere on the net. my 4th gen 40g ipod will, when playing freaze, but if you put you ear up to it, you can here the hard drive wirl up, and then suddenly wirl back down again. it will also do the whole regular freaze thing, and come up with all the trouble icons, such as the !, the sad face with the ipod support page, and the file with a ? on it. the funny thing is, most of this can be fixed with a swift tap on the back. anyone have any ideas?
